A VA loan is a mortgage provided by the <\/span>U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs<\/span><\/a> program. It is available to active and veteran military service personnel and their surviving spouses. While VA loans are issued by private lenders, they are backed by the federal government.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do You Qualify?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Qualifying for a VA loan<\/a> is not as hard as most people think. The criteria include your time in service and the status of your discharge from the military. Below are the basic qualifying requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Did you serve at least 2 years of regular service?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Have you served at least 6 years in the National Guard or Reserves?<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Have you ever served 90 days of Active Duty during wartime?<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Did you serve 181 days of Active Duty during peacetime?<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Were you released from the military due to a duty-related disability?<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Are you the surviving spouse of a Veteran?<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Are you a cadet or midshipman of a United States Military Academy?<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Are you a member of certain other Federal service organizations?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
